Shares struggle to add value

Shares saw another increase after fluctuating during this morning's session.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index edged up 0.28 per cent to 386.46 points.

However, only 69 out of 229 listed codes managed to post gains.

Among those were nine of the 30 largest stocks in terms of capitalisation and liquidity tracked by the VN30. Notably, HCM City Infrastructure Investment Corp (CII) hit their ceiling price of VND24,100 (US$1.14) per share.

Meanwhile, some major stocks failed to follow the same trend, including insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), property developer Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG), Phu My Fertiliser (DPM), Saigon Securities Inc (SSI) and Sacombank (STB).

The VN30 put on 0.25 per cent, reaching 451.57 points.

Market value reached VND215.6 billion ($10.2 million) as around 13.2 million shares changed hands. This is only 66.8 per cent of yesterday morning's level.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index finished at 54.24 points, a 0.09 per cent rise.

Market sentiment was not as positive as expected, with only 43 shares advancing, while there were 78 declining and 273 closing unchanged.

Trading value was meagre, nearly halving from yesterday morning's figure to just VND51 billion ($2.4 million) with a volume of 6.5 million shares.

The HNX30 - representing the Ha Noi bourse's top shares, however, lost 0.47 per cent to 100.24 points.

The market will resume at 1pm.
