Stocks mixed on both exchanges

Shares continued to rise on HCM City's exchange this July 18 morning but declined on the Ha Noi bourse.

Despite decliners outnumbering advancers by 121-89 on the HCM City Stock Exchange, the benchmark VN-Index still gained 0.11 per cent to finish this morning at 418.03.

Over 37.5 million shares, worth nearly VND619 billion (US$29.5 million), were exchanged this morning.

Blue chips were mixed. Among the top 30 shares by market capitalisation and liquidity, 11 advanced, 12 sank and seven closed unchanged.

The VN30 Index was up 0.12 per cent to 493.64 points.

Sacom Development&Investment Corp (SAM) was the most active code this morning, with 2.6 million shares changing hands to end at VND7,900 a share, a 2.6 per cent rise in value.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index closed 70.77 points, down 0.88 per cent from yesterday's value, as losers outnumbered gainers 133-59.

Large-cap stocks slumped, with the HNX30 (tracking the 30 biggest shares by market capitalisation and liquidity on the Ha Noi market) down 1.24 per cent to stand at 134.55 points.

Trading value reached VND213 billion ($10.1 million) on a total volume of over 21.6 million shares.

VNDirect Securities Co (VND) was still the most active share in Ha Noi with over 3 million traded, closing unchanged at VND10,700 a share.

The afternoon session will resume at 1pm.
