Shares fall on weak demand

Shares continued to lose ground during this morning's session on weak demand.

Declining nearly 0.3 per cent, the VN-Index on the HCM City Stock Exchange reached 426.53 points. Losers outnumbered gainers by 104-75.

The value of trades fell to VND442.7 billion (US$21 million), as trading volume totalled only 27 million shares.

Of the 30 leading stocks tracked by the VN30, 13 codes tumbled, including market heavyweight Vietcombank (VCB). Meanwhile, nine others succeeded in advancing.

The VN30 retreated 0.5 per cent to 501.84 points.

Sacombank (STB), which lost 3.4 per cent, was the most heavily traded stock on the southern bourse with around 3.3 million shares changing hands.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index shed 0.6 per cent to 74.29 points.

Decliners largely overwhelmed advancers by 103-56.

The value and volume of trades significantly dropped to VND197.5 billion ($9.4 million) and 17.9 million shares.

The most active stock in Ha Noi, PetroVietnam Construction Co (PVX), also saw 3.3 million shares exchanged
