Shares down on meagre trades

Shares on national stock exchanges tumbled on lower trades this morning. The combined volume of trades dropped around 40 per cent over yesterday morning's level.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, market value reached only VND518.1 billion (US$24.6 million) on a volume of a million shares.

Decliners overwhelmed advancers by 168-41.

The benchmark VN-Index lost 0.33 per cent to finish at 431.09 points. Meanwhile, the VN30, tracking the city's 30 leading stocks in terms of capitalisation and liquidity, reached 508.68 points, a 0.26 per cent slip.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index shed 0.86 per cent, concluding at 75.15 points. Nearly half of the listed codes dropped points.

The value and volume of trades fell to VND244 billion ($11.6 million) and 22.4 million shares, respectively.
