VN-Index rebounds as stocks gain ground

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index recovered strongly on May 25 as buy-side combed shares heavily on speculation that values were low enough to buy in, while sell-side still hesitated.

The measure of 304 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange soared 2.45 per cent, or 10.46 points, to close at 437.38 points with 246 gainers, 37 losers, and 26 stocks remaining unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse improved by 34 per cent in volume, and 36 per cent in value over the previous trading session as more than 77.81 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.29 trillion.

Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) was the most active share in volume with nearly 1.85 million shares changing hands.

Tan Tao Investment - Industry Corporation (ITA) followed with 1.74 million shares.

Tay Bac Minerals Investment Joint Stock Company (KTB) came next with 1.7 million shares traded.

Big gainers on the city bourse included AgriBank Securities Joint-Stock Corporation (AGR), Vitranschart Joint Stock Company (VST), Dien Quang Joint Stock Company (DQC), and Domesco Medical Import Export Joint Stock Corporation (DMC).

Hoang Huy Investment Services Joint Stock Company (HHS) plummeted 30 per cent to close at VND28,700. The company will pay dividends to its current shareholders by shares at a ratio of 50 per cent.

National Seed Joint Stock Company (NSC), and Interfood Shareholding Company (IFS) fell 5 per cent to close at VND45,600, and VND3,800 respectively.

Duc Long Gia Lai Group Joint Stock Company (DLG) declined fourth trading sessions, paring 4.38 per cent to close at VND15,300.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – sprang 12.69 points, or 2.53 per cent, to end at 514.27. Among its 30 members, 29 stocks advanced, and 1 closed flat.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north reclaimed 3.26 per cent, or 2.4 points, to close at 76.06 points with 284 winners, 38 losers, and 21 stocks treading water. Around 52.16 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND535.45 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares edged up 0.75 per cent, or 0.27 points, to close at 36.49 points. A total of 431,500 shares changed hands at VND2.07 billion.
