Stocks rebound after recent declines

Stocks surged at the two national stock exchanges this morning after two consecutive sessions of declines.

The benchmark VN-Index on the HCM City Stock Exchange regained nearly 10 points, or 2.33 per cent over yesterday's loss, to close this morning's session at 436.88 points.

Advanders outnumbers decliners by ten times, led by large caps. Twenty nine of the 30 leading shares by market value and liquidity posted gains, of which 11 rose to the daily limit rise of 5 per cent, including the two top heavyweight stocks, insurer Vietcombank (VCB) and Bao Viet Holdings (BVH).

Only food processor Masan Group (MSN) closed unchanged.

The VN30 Index jumped 2.41 per cent to 513.66 points.

Total trading value was still sluggish, however, reaching VND697 billion (US$33.2 million), on a volume of over 49 million shares.

Tan Tao Investment Industry (ITA) was the most active code this morning on a trade of over 1.7 million shares, finishing 4.1 per cent up at VND7,700 ($0.37).

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also increased 2.5 per cent to a close of 75.50 points by the end of this morning.

Market value doubled yesterday morning's value, totalling VND410.3 billion ($19.5 million), on a volume of 41.7 million shares.

Losers overwhelmed gainers by 235-28.

Habubank (HBB) temporarily led trades this morning with 3.36 million shares changing hands, closing up 6 per cent at VND5,300.
