Thailand's industrial conglomerate SCG sees Việt Nam playing an increasingly important role in advancing higher-value manufacturing and strengthening regional competitiveness through technology, innovation and deeper supply chain integration, the company said.

Speaking at the Fortune Southeast Asia 500 Summit 2026 in HCM City this week, SCG President and CEO Thammasak Sethaudom described Việt Nam as an important part of the group's regional manufacturing network.

There were significant opportunities to strengthen the country's industrial capabilities through technology, innovation and closer cooperation with local businesses, he said, adding that skilled workers and competitive domestic suppliers would be essential to sustainable industrial growth.

With more than 30 years of operations in Việt Nam, SCG is pursuing investments aimed at improving operational resilience, expanding higher-value production and supporting sustainable manufacturing.

Its Long Sơn Petrochemicals (LSP) is advancing an ethane feedstock enhancement project to improve cost competitiveness and feedstock flexibility, with completion scheduled for the end of 2027.

Meanwhile, SCG Packaging (SCGP) announced a VNĐ604 billion (US$$23 million) investment in May 2026 to expand advanced packaging production in HCM City.

The automated facility is expected to add 26,800 tonnes of annual production capacity from September 2027, enhancing manufacturing efficiency and the group's regional supply capabilities.

SCG's participation in the summit follows its third consecutive inclusion in the Fortune Southeast Asia 500 ranking. The group was ranked 22nd in the 2026 edition.

Based on its 2025 financial performance, SCG reported revenue of $15.127 billion, net profit of $428.5 million and total assets of $26.115 billion.
