Việt Nam and Israel have substantial potential to expand cooperation in high-tech agriculture, particularly as the Southeast Asia nation is accelerating the restructuring of its agricultural sector towards higher added value, sustainable development, and greater application of science and technology in production, Vietnamese Ambassador to Israel Nguyễn Kỳ Sơn has said.

The ambassador made the remarks at the Việt Nam–Israel high-tech agriculture networking seminar 2026, held in Tel Aviv on July 9 in both in-person and online formats, with the participation of representatives from Israel's Ministry of Economy and Industry, universities, research institutes, businesses, and organisations operating in the high-tech agriculture sector of the two countries.

The seminar was organised on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Việt Nam and Israel, aiming to promote cooperation in modern agriculture while providing a platform for participants to discuss practical needs, introduce technological solutions, connect businesses, and explore opportunities for investment cooperation and technology transfer.

Sơn said Israel has extensive experience and strengths in developing advanced agricultural technologies that are well suited to Việt Nam's innovation needs. He expressed his hope that the seminar would generate more practical cooperation among localities, businesses, and research institutions of the two countries.

At the event, Ofer Fohrer, Head of the Export and Investment Promotion Division under the Foreign Trade Administration of Israel's Ministry of Economy and Industry, shared prospects for bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and high-tech agriculture.

Trần Văn Dũng, a lawyer from Vu MacKenzie Vietnam (VMK) Law Firm and the University of Finance and Marketing, presented Việt Nam's current situation and solutions for promoting the application of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and digital technologies in agriculture.

Israeli businesses and experts introduced a wide range of technologies and solutions for sustainable agricultural development, including smart irrigation systems, greenhouse technologies, crop varieties, microbial technologies, post-harvest solutions, aquaculture technologies, and digital transformation in agriculture.

Scientists from Ben-Gurion University and Israeli research institutions also presented their latest studies on Internet of Things (IoT)-based irrigation systems, water-saving technologies, drought-, salinity- and heat-resistant crop varieties, plant breeding techniques, and climate adaptation solutions.

In the fisheries sector, experts introduced recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), offshore submerged cage farming models, and technologies designed to improve production efficiency.

Vietnamese representatives from localities, universities, and research institutes highlighted the demand for high-tech agricultural development, challenges in technology adoption, and cooperation needs in human resource training, technology transfer, scientific research, and pilot projects.

The seminar is seen as a practical initiative to strengthen links among businesses, research institutions, and management agencies of the two countries, thereby promoting cooperation in research, investment, technology transfer, and the development of modern, sustainable agricultural models capable of addressing global challenges.
