The Government has approved a charter capital increase for the Vietnam Agricultural and Rural Development Bank (Agribank) by nearly VNĐ30 trillion (US$1.13 billion), raising the State-owned bank’s total charter capital to over VNĐ81 trillion.

Under Prime Minister’s Decision No. 1206/QĐ-TTg, Agribank will receive additional capital during the 2025–27 period equivalent to its remaining profits that have been actually paid to the State budget.

This year, the bank’s charter capital will be increased by nearly VNĐ9.53 trillion from the central budget, as approved by the National Assembly under Resolution No. 246/QH15 dated November 14, 2025. In 2027, the additional capital allocated will be more than VNĐ20.16 trillion.

As of June 30 this year, Agribank's total assets reached over VNĐ2.7 quadrillion. The bank’s total mobilised capital reached over VNĐ2.5 quadrillion, while its outstanding loans exceeded VNĐ2 quadrillion.

Agribank has been a leading commercial bank in financing agriculture, farmers and rural development, with outstanding loans to these sectors exceeding VNĐ1.32 quadrillion, accounting for 64.9 per cent of its total loan portfolio.

The capital increase is expected to strengthen Agribank’s financial capacity and support its efforts to maintain capital adequacy requirements while moving towards enhanced Basel II and Basel III standards.
