PM leads Cambodia delegation at Russia-ASEAN Business Forum

The business forum is held as a side event in conjunction with the Russia-ASEAN Commemorative Summit to mark the 35th anniversary of relations between Russia and ASEAN, at the Bashir Rameev IT Park in Kazan.

A high-level Russia-ASEAN Business Forum is beginning today, where the leaders of 11 ASEAN countries, including its newly listed member East Timor, heads of international organisations and major companies, foreign officials, leading representatives of the business and media communities are taking part to discuss a number of key business agendas.

Prime Minister Hun Manet is leading the high-level Cambodian delegation to participate in the business forum as he is on his mission to attend the Russia-ASEAN Commemorative Summit at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin from June 17-18.

The business forum is being held as a side event in conjunction with the Russia-ASEAN Commemorative Summit, to mark the 35th anniversary of establishing relations between Russia and ASEAN, at the Bashir Rameev IT Park, Kazan, Russia.

Participating alongside the Prime Minister at the business forum is Tan Monivann, Vice President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC), among others and high-ranking government dignitaries, and private sector business delegates, as well as Russian and ASEAN countries’ leading entrepreneurs.

This forum is organised by the Ministry of Economic Development and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Roscongress Foundation, and Russia-ASEAN Business Council, in collaboration with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council.

The Cambodian delegation also attends other related meetings aimed at expanding business relations, exploring new investment opportunities, and further strengthening economic cooperation between Cambodia and Russia, as well as within the broader Russia-ASEAN partnership framework.

Speaking at the press conference, Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said, “The Russian and ASEAN leaders will exchange views on the most relevant issues at the international and regional levels. The delegation heads will discuss the issues of deepening practical cooperation between Russia and the association.”

She added, “They [leaders] will take step to promote Russia-ASEAN cooperation in the political, economic, and humanitarian spheres. At the end of the meeting, a number of joint documents are expected to be accepted at a higher level, which will determine the general priority and the factors to further develop the Russia-ASEAN dialogue.”

According to Zakharova, the Russia-ASEAN business forum aims to promote the growth of mutual trade, investment, and the launch of new mutually beneficial projects, including youth projects.

“Systemic work is underway in areas such as trade, investment, energy, agriculture, education, science, technology, digitalization, and tourism,” she said.

Zakharova noted, “ASEAN is by far the third most populous region in the world, having a population of almost 685 million people, with a total GDP of $3.9 trillion, making it the world’s fifth-largest economy.”

She added, “The region has an international trade turnover worth of around $3.8 trillion, making it one of the world’s largest regional organizations.”

It should be noted that the previous summit of Russia and the association was held in 2021 in a videoconference format amid the global outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, with the first meeting taking place in 2005.
