Cambodia sees Chinese tech as key driver of digital transformation
ASEAN officials visit a robotics company in Shenyang to study how a transition to intelligent manufacturing can support regional workforce development and industrial modernisation.

Shenyang, China – Cambodia views China’s advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and intelligent manufacturing as a potential catalyst for digital transformation and deeper cooperation with ASEAN, a senior government official said during a visit to a leading robotics company in Shenyang.
As part of the 2026 ASEAN-China Media Cooperation Forum in Shenyang, Liaoning province, delegates from Southeast Asian countries visited Siasun Robot & Automation Co Ltd, one of China’s largest robotics manufacturers specialising in advanced digital manufacturing and intelligent automation solutions.
Prak Thaveak Amida, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Information, said the technologies showcased at the company reflected China’s successful transition from traditional manufacturing to intelligent production driven by innovation, digital systems and advanced technologies.
“The most impressive aspect is not only the robots themselves, but the integration of robotics, artificial intelligence, sensors, data and entire production lines,” he said.
He added that such integration could improve efficiency, reduce repetitive work, enhance workplace safety and strengthen product quality.
Thaveak Amida said China’s technological achievements offer valuable lessons for ASEAN countries, including Cambodia, as they pursue digital transformation, workforce development, vocational training and industrial modernisation.
“Technology should be viewed as a tool to enhance human capabilities rather than replace workers,” he said, adding that innovation can help increase productivity and create new opportunities for economic growth.
Thaveak Amida said China’s experience in intelligent manufacturing and emerging technologies should be studied to support Cambodia’s vision of building a digital society and digital economy.
He highlighted opportunities for greater cooperation between Cambodia, ASEAN and China in areas such as digital skills development, innovation exchanges, the application of AI in information and public communications, and technology education for young people.
The Cambodian official said the visit provided insights not only into China’s technological progress but also into new avenues for Cambodia-China and ASEAN-China cooperation aimed at promoting innovation-driven and sustainable development.
The visit took place as ASEAN and China continue to expand cooperation in digital connectivity, technological innovation and human resource development under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
