HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Science and Technology has proposed taking over State ownership representation of Việt Nam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) from the Ministry of Finance under a wider administrative restructuring plan.

The proposal forms part of draft amendments to Decree 55/2025/NĐ-CP, which sets out the ministry’s functions, duties and organisational structure.

VNPT, a major player in the postal, telecommunications and digital transformation sectors, has operated as a wholly State-owned limited liability company since 2010.

State ownership representation at VNPT has been transferred several times in recent years. In November 2018, it moved from the Ministry of Information and Communications to the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises. In February 2025, it was reassigned to the Ministry of Finance.

VNPT has charter capital of VNĐ72.2 trillion (US$2.8 billion).

The group reported consolidated revenue of VNĐ61.2 trillion in 2025, with pre-tax profit of VNĐ6.6 trillion and a contribution of VNĐ6.1 trillion to the State budget.

For 2026, VNPT targets revenue of VNĐ64.6 trillion and pre-tax profit of VNĐ7.3 trillion.

The group said it plans to improve efficiency through innovation-led growth, prioritising investment in telecommunications and IT infrastructure, accelerating 5G commercialisation and expanding data centres, cloud computing and digital platforms while strengthening partnerships to build a broader digital ecosystem.
