Construction of the first phase of the Thăng Long IV Industrial Park began on Wednesday in the central province of Thanh Hóa, marking a new push to expand industrial infrastructure and attract foreign investment.
Developed by Thang Long Industrial Park Thanh Hoa Co, a subsidiary of Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation, the project covers about 167 hectares with a total investment of more than VNĐ2.91 trillion (approximately US$115.8 million).
The development forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen industrial infrastructure in the province and boost foreign direct investment.
Kenta Kawanabe, general director of Thang Long Industrial Park Thanh Hoa Co, said the company viewed its investment in Thanh Hóa as a strategic decision due to the province’s workforce, location and transport connections.
“Thanh Hóa has abundant and high-quality human resources and a strategic location with convenient transportation infrastructure suitable for industrial development,” Kawanabe said at the ceremony.
Mai Xuân Liêm, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, called on the investor and contractors to mobilise financial resources, manpower and equipment to ensure the project is completed on schedule while complying with Vietnamese regulations and environmental standards.
Local authorities pledged to work closely with the developer and contractors to resolve potential obstacles during construction and ensure the project is delivered safely and to the required quality, Liêm said.
Once completed and operational, the industrial park is expected to attract supporting industry manufacturers, create thousands of jobs and contribute to State budget revenues, provincial officials said.
