Central Retail Vietnam on Monday inaugurated the GO! Thăng Long shopping mall, unveiling a major upgrade of the former Big C Thăng Long site as the retailer expands its presence in the capital.

The VNĐ650 billion (US$25 million) mall covers 35,180sq.m across three commercial floors, including more than VNĐ200 billion spent on renovation. It features a GO! hypermarket and over 250 brands across shopping, dining and entertainment, including popular brands such as The Coffee House, Phúc Long, Adidas, Lining, PNJ, Canifa, KFC and Lotte Cinema.

The centre is expected to generate around 2,000 jobs.

Trần Hữu Linh, director of the Domestic Market Management Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said Central Retail had become one of Việt Nam’s three largest retail groups since entering the market in 2013, operating more than 40 shopping centres and 13 hypermarkets nationwide.

He praised the group’s contribution to the development of Việt Nam’s modern retail infrastructure, which he described as an increasingly important priority for the Government as domestic consumption rises alongside a population of more than 106 million.

He said expanding models like GO! malls helps improve consumer access to quality goods and supports domestic production.

“We highly value Central Retail’s commitment to modernising Việt Nam’s retail infrastructure,” Linh said.

CEO of Central Retail Vietnam Olivier Langlet, said the upgrade marked a meaningful milestone after more than two decades of the site serving Hà Nội consumers. Transforming Big C Thăng Long into GO! Thăng Long demonstrated the group’s long-term commitment to improving service quality and contributing to the city’s development.

He added that more than 90 per cent of products in our hypermarket are sourced from Vietnamese manufacturers and suppliers.

GO! Thăng Long has introduced free services such as three-hour parking, baggage drop-off, baby-care rooms and accessible facilities. It also hosts a dedicated area for One Commune One Product (OCOP) items from provinces nationwide, giving Hà Nội shoppers access to regional specialties ahead of Tết (Lunar New Year).

Central Retail Vietnam marked the opening with a VNĐ100 million donation of essential goods to SOS Children’s Village Hà Nội.
