The projects mark a milestone in ongoing efforts to transform Cambodia’s northeastern provinces into a hub for investment-driven development, balancing economic growth with social impact and sustainability.
Cambodia’s Northeast is poised for a significant economic boost with three major agricultural and agro-industrial investment projects worth over $250 million, expected to generate around 12,000 jobs for local communities, according to officials.
This was revealed at a technical meeting held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, led by Hean Sahib, Advisor to Prime Minister Hun Manet and Chairman of the Northeastern Investment Promotion Working Group (NEIPWG) last week.
The meeting focused on the mechanisms and technical procedures for implementing the projects in Kratie and Ratanakiri provinces.
The gathering brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Northeast Regional Development Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the General Department of State Property and Non-Tax Revenue, and other relevant experts.
Sahib emphasised the strategic importance of agricultural and agro-industrial investments in the Northeast, describing the region as “a key driver of economic growth with high potential.” He noted that these projects would enhance productivity, promote the processing of agricultural products, and strengthen Cambodia’s export capacity, while attracting further domestic and foreign investment.
The working group carefully examined all aspects of the projects, ensuring compliance with Cambodian laws and regulations with the goal of facilitating investment activities while maximising socio-economic benefits for the country. Once operational, the three projects are expected to generate approximately 12,000 jobs, reflecting the government’s commitment to stimulating rural employment and advancing regional development.
The initiatives also align with the priorities of Cambodia’s special programme to promote investment in the Northeast, highlighting the government’s focus on developing agriculture and agro-industrial sectors as engines of economic growth.

The NEIPWG was established under the auspices of the Economic and Financial Policy Committee (EFPC) to spearhead, coordinate, and implement the ‘Special Programme to Promote Investment in the Four Northeastern Provinces’. The programme was officially launched on April 9,2025, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Hun Manet.
