Cambodia approves $7.2B in investments in the first 8 months, says Chanthol
In the first eight months of 2025, Cambodia approved 491 investment projects worth $7.2 billion. The number of projects is expected to rise further by the end of the year, potentially creating over 400,000 jobs for citizens.
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), during his keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 25th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), held on Monday in Fujian province.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and attended by senior Chinese leaders, international organisations, investment promotion agencies, and business representatives from around 30 countries, according to Chanthol, who posted on his social media on yesterday.
In his speech, Chanthol congratulated and thanked the Government of the People’s Republic of China for hosting this important event to strengthen investment and trade cooperation, while promoting the vision of the Belt and Road Initiative. He also expressed his pleasure in delivering his second keynote speech at CIFIT, following his first in 2024.
Highlighting Cambodia’s investment progress in 2024, Chanthol noted that the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) approved 414 projects worth approximately $6.9 billion, a 40 percent increase compared to 2023.
“In the first eight months of 2025, Cambodia approved 491 investment projects with a capital of $7.2 billion. We expect the number of investment projects in 2025 to increase further, creating more than 400,000 jobs for our people,” Chanthol said.
Chanthol also underlined Cambodia’s strong export growth, with exports reaching $26.6 billion in 2024, up 13.6 percent from 2023. “These figures demonstrate Cambodia’s resilience, openness, and welcoming environment for investors,” he said.
On this occasion, he further emphasised Cambodia’s vision of becoming a high-income country by 2050, along with the country’s ongoing investment priorities in solar energy, smart agriculture, clean transportation, and other emerging sectors.
He expressed confidence that CIFIT would provide greater opportunities for joint cooperation in both investment and trade.
