Royal Government to set national policy to boost ago-industrial sector in western Cambodia

The Royal Government of Cambodia will develop a national policy to promote the agro-industrial sector in the western region of the country as part of its efforts to diversify the national economy, Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Tuesday.

“I have assigned our policy-making committee to draft an investment policy focused on agro-industrial and industrial development in the western region,” the Premier announced during the celebration of the 20th National Fisheries Day 2025, held at Boeung Tonle Bati in Kraing Thnong commune, Bati district, Takeo province.

The Prime Minister noted that while development efforts have so far concentrated on areas such as Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk province, Siem Reap province, and the northeastern region, a new policy to stimulate agro-industrial growth in the west will soon be introduced.

“Agriculture cannot be limited to cultivation and the export of raw products,” he stressed. “We must strengthen domestic processing for export in order to create jobs and ensure long-term economic sustainability.”

The Prime Minister further stated that although some countries have previously looked down on Cambodia and attempted to restrict its market access, such economic pressure no longer affects the Kingdom.

“The Royal Government has invested for many years in food security, education, healthcare, and infrastructure,” he said. “Because of these efforts, we are now resilient in the face of external threats.”

“Threats are no longer effective because we have taken control of our supply chains,” he emphasised. “Therefore, no one can look down on Cambodia. This is the correct and strategic policy of the Royal Government.”
