The venture received the green light on July 14 and is set to become a key infrastructure pillar of CMC's digital and AI transformation, supporting its push into global markets.

The hyperscale data centre is set to break ground in 2026 and will serve the massive computing needs of AI and the digital economy. It will specialise in providing AI-as-a-Service, cloud, big data, and cybersecurity for millions of users. The centre uses renewable energy solutions towards green standards from the design stage.

CMC is building the hyperscale data centre as a lure for major tech and AI companies to come to Vietnam. The centre has an initial capacity of 30MW, which would be expanded to 120MW later.

CMC chairman Nguyen Trung Chinh said, "We don't consider the Hyperscale Data Centre as a mere data centre, but as an infrastructure foundation for Ho Chi Minh City to develop into a regional digital hub. The centre paves the way for Vietnamese to access the powerful computing resources without having to bring data abroad."

Nguyen Ky Phung, head of Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) Management Board, said, "Data centre development is one of the top priorities of SHTP in the coming years, alongside key sectors like e-wallets, semiconductors, AI, robots, and biotechnology."

"In line with our high-tech development strategy, SHTP is luring research and development projects to transfer technology, build an innovation ecosystem, and support startups," he added.
