Australia to increase cooperation with Cambodia in trade, investment sectors

Australia is committed to increasing cooperation with Cambodia in the areas of trade and investment and contributing to an improved investment environment.

The commitment was expressed by Derek YIP, Ambassador of Australia to Cambodia, during a courtesy call on Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), at the CDC headquarters on October 17.

Derek YIP further revealed his interest in Cambodia’s infrastructure development plans and projects, hoping that Australian companies would contribute to any construction projects in future.

The Ambassador expressed his pride that Australia, through the Cambodia-Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED), has contributed to the Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF) so far.

For his part, Chanthol briefed his guest about Cambodia’s investment opportunities and favourable investment climate such as its young and dynamic labour force and the CDC Investment Project Management (cdcIPM), a technology system that allows all investors to register their investment applications everywhere in an easier and time saving manner.

The CDC first vice president also mentioned the Comprehensive Master Plan on Cambodia Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023-2033, which priorities 174 projects in the next decade with an estimated total investment value of $36.68 billion, as well as the CDC’s planned “knock-on-door” mission to more foreign countries before the year end to attract more investors to the Kingdom.
