12 Cambodian rice firms to attend international food fair in France

Twelve Cambodian rice exporters will showcase the world’s best quality of Cambodian rice at Salon International de l’Alimentation (SIAL) in Paris, France, scheduled to be held on October 19-23, said the Cambodia Rice Federation.

SIAL Paris is the global food trade fair held every two years, which specializes in the food processing industry.

The Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) has booked a pavilion for the second time, the rice association said in a press release issued on Tuesday. It booked a similar pavilion for the first time in 2014.

“The purpose of participating in this international food exhibition event is to support the Royal Government’s policy in diversifying the markets, standards, food safety, rice seed variety and cultivation in Cambodia executed by the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries,” read the statement.

Speaking to Khmer Times, CRF president Chan Sokheang said, “To promote Cambodian rice in the global market, we plan to make overseas trips to foreign countries in the form of official visits or join international exhibitions where our members can meet up with partners on rice trade deals.”

Participating in the exhibition is made with the co-supports of the Khmer Enterprise (KE) of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation and USAID Cambodia through Feed the Future Cambodia Harvest III.

SIAL Paris is the must-attend biennial event for the food industry.

The Cambodian Rice pavilion will accommodate 12 companies including Kompongthom Rice Miller Limited, Daily Fresh Food (Cambodia, Eang Heang Import-Export, Signature of Asia, City Rice Import-exporter, Fed Rice Battambang, Lor Eak Heng Sek Meas, Indochina Rice Mill Limited, Amru Rice (Cambodia), Khmer Food Group, Primalis Corporation, and Golden Rice (Cambodia).

The EU is Cambodia’s largest market. In the first three quarters of this year, the Kingdom exported 228,731 tonnes to the EU countries, sharing 51 percent of the total export of 445,913 tonnes of milled rice.

The Kingdom earned $335 million in revenue from milled rice exports and $1,000 million in paddy rice exports during the above-mentioned period.

The CRF has set a plan to promote Cambodia’s fragrant rice in European countries in a bid to spread out the quality of milled rice. It has planned to lead rice exporters to join exhibitions in the EU countries such as France, Germany, Holland, Belgium and other countries to push direct sales to customers.
