​Japanese specialists expect to boost cooperation with Vietnam in semiconductor production, education

Japan’s Hiroshima University and some members of the Japan-Vietnam Specialists’ Association desire to bolster partnership with Vietnam in the education, semiconductor manufacturing, carbon neutrality, and smart city development fields, Prof. Mitsuo Ochi, president of Hiroshima University, told Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong on Thursday.

The Vietnamese state leader received a delegation from the Japan-Vietnam Specialists’ Association led by Prof. Ochi on the same day, as part of the former’s Japan visit.

Prof. Ochi said that his university is willing to admit Vietnamese students and expects to get support from the Vietnamese state president and agencies.

In response to his proposals for cooperation, State President Thuong said that Vietnam is prioritizing projects in the above-mentioned spheres.

The top Vietnamese official also prompted the association to speed up its cooperation.

During their meeting, Thuong highlighted numerous achievements having been made over the past many years as a result of the two nations’ multifaceted partnership, with significant contributions from the Japan-Vietnam Specialists’ Association to the education and science-technology sectors.

The recent elevation of the Japan-Vietnam relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world will facilitate the association’s cooperation with Vietnam, said Thuong.

He noted that many parts of Vietnam, mainly the Mekong Delta region, have been hit heavily by climate change, so he suggested the association expand its partnership with Vietnamese universities and localities to help the Southeast Asian nation tackle such climate change.

Several universities in Vietnam are studying the field, and are seeking cooperation with international organizations.

On the same day, the state president and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam visited Kyushu University, one of Japan’s five leading public universities.

As many as 53 Vietnamese people are studying at the university, and three Vietnamese are teaching there.

After engaging in a brief talk with Vietnamese students, State President Thuong dropped by the International Research Center for Hydrogen Energy at Kyushu University.

Dr. Pham Hung Cuong is the only Vietnamese to work at the center, which is one of the world’s leading hydrogen energy research facilities.

The center has partnered with several major Japanese firms to initiate countless research programs.

The Vietnamese state leader also met with chairman of the Kyushu - Vietnam Friendship Association Hoshino Hiroshi on the same day.

President Thuong, his spouse, and the delegation of Vietnamese officials left Fukuoka Prefecture to return to Vietnam on Thursday afternoon.
