Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong is set to attend and deliver a speech at the APEC CEO Summit in San Francisco, California, slated from Tuesday, with the participation of over 2,000 international and regional business leaders, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang told a press briefing in Hanoi on Sunday.

The top Vietnamese official will spread a message of encouragement to enterprises to join hands to overcome ongoing challenges and seize all opportunities to foster sustainable growth and benefit the region, Hang said.

He will travel to the United States on Tuesday for the APEC Summit at the invitation of U.S. President Joe Biden. Thuong's trip is scheduled to last from November 14 to 17.

President Thuong will lead a delegation of top Vietnamese officials to join a series of APEC events, which run until Friday.

This will be the Vietnamese state president’s first working trip to the U.S. since he took office in March this year.

Besides his participation in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, the president will engage in several bilateral activities in the U.S..

His U.S. visit coincides with the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the APEC Summit and the 25th anniversary of Vietnam’s accession to APEC.

The trip is slated to take place two months after Vietnam and the U.S. upgraded their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

During his trip, President Thuong and APEC leaders will discuss a host of key issues related to global and regional economies, and put forward solutions to deeper cooperation in trade, investment, science-technology, and innovation, among others, said the deputy minister.

Vietnam will work with the APEC members to boost dialogue, multilateralism, and partnership to build a sustainable and prosperous region.

His working trip will be one of Vietnam’s most important diplomatic activities in 2023, Hang affirmed.

APEC now includes 21 members, covering some 40 percent of the global population, 59 percent of global GDP, and almost half of global trade.

Vietnam joined the APEC forum in 1998, as part of the country’s international integration strategy, Hang added.

Vietnam chaired the APEC leaders' meetings in Hanoi in 2006 and in Da Nang City in 2017.
