Amazon urged to support Vietnamese firms in digital transformation

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said he advocates for Amazon to expand its investments and business ventures in Vietnam, facilitating the global exposure of Vietnamese products and services through its platform.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested Amazon support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam in digital transformation at a meeting with the e-commerce giant's Vice President, International Public Policy & Government Affairs Susan Pointer during her official visit to Vietnam on October 26.

Chinh said digital transformation is a global trend, and Vietnam actively fosters digital economic development, citizenship, society, and government. This includes the evolution of e-commerce, intending to have the digital economy accounted for 20% of GDP by 2025 and 30% by 2030.

He wanted Amazon to share its experience in developing e-commerce, cross-border trade, and cloud computing and assist in training the workforce in e-commerce.

Besides, he suggested the two sides to boost collaboration in business management, logistics expansion, and optimizing operational systems, helping Vietnamese enterprises build their brands, participate in global supply chains, and export their goods and products.

Vietnam will soon inaugurate the National Innovation Center, so it expects to receive Amazon's consultation and cooperation in specific projects to maximize its effectiveness and leverage Vietnam's potential and strengths in digital transformation and innovation.

With a population of 100 million people who are increasingly inclined towards e-commerce, Amazon has significant opportunities for market development in Vietnam. The e-commerce giant features over 17 million Vietnamese products each year on its platform.

The Prime Minister said he advocates for Amazon to expand its investments and business ventures in Vietnam, facilitating the global exposure of Vietnamese products and services through its platform, with a mutual benefit approach.

Vice President of International Public Policy & Government Affairs Susan Pointer pledged to cooperate with Vietnam's ministries, agencies, and businesses to enhance the effectiveness of cooperation between the two sides.

Recognizing Vietnam's favorable environment, investment opportunities, and potential, Pointer stated that Amazon will further engage in Vietnam's digital transformation process, develop e-commerce and cloud computing, raise awareness, and provide skills training for the Vietnamese workforce.

Amazon will collaborate with Vietnamese companies to manufacture products and equipment and promote more local products and services globally. The company also aims to support Vietnamese startups in expanding their global reach, she underlined.
