Global influencer sees potential for AI in Vietnam

Vietnamese tech companies have lots of chances to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to expand their operations, Andrew Ng, known as one of the world’s top AI influencers, said at FPT Techday 2023, an international technology event scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

As one of global tech experts, Ng, founder and CEO at Landing AI, which provides AI-powered Software-as-a-service products, sees that Vietnam has much potential to develop its AI field.

While the software industry is dominated by Intel, Nvidia, and AMD, and cloud computing is led by Amazon and Google, there is room to evolve various apps helping solve users’ problems, he told FPT Techday 2023, held in Hanoi.

Vietnam has ample opportunity to boom in value chains from traditional software outsourcing to AI app development, said Ng.

Two types of AI technology producing the highest value for tech giants are supervised learning and generative AI such as ChatGPT.

“I believe that generative AI will be widely used to create numerous apps in the coming years,” he said.

Truong Gia Binh, chairman of FPT Corporation, said that his firm placed a bet on the large vision model three years ago and did the trick.

FPT GenAI was debuted at the event. The product harnesses the power of generative AI and is geared up for firms to improve their operations.

To continue its journey of tapping AI, FPT signed a deal with Landing AI to exploit computer vision to advance the industrial, health, and education sectors.

“The cooperation is expected to open a new chapter for AI growth in Vietnam, contributing to turning the Southeast Asian nation into an AI hub,” said Binh.

FPT Techday 2023, an annual tech event held by FPT Corporation, was set to attract 10,000 visitors, including 2,500 representatives from global companies.
