Vietnamese market traders in Russia report low sales as economic growth slows
A Vietnamese diplomatic delegation on Saturday afternoon visited a Russian market and met with overseas Vietnamese traders there to be briefed on their business performance, which has been negatively affected by an economic slowdown in Russia.
The delegation, led by Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi, came to Teply Stan, a local market in southwestern Moscow, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
In 2011, Kim Son Trading Company, whose director is Pham Dinh Ly, rented part of a textile and fabric zone at the market for overseas Vietnamese traders to run their business there.
To date, the market has housed some 70 Vietnamese-run stalls which offer clothing items and other services.
The Vietnamese ambassador and a delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia visited multiple stalls to get more information about their business operations as well as their aspirations.
The leader of Kim Son Company and Vietnamese traders briefed the delegation on the establishment and development of the market, in addition to their current business performance.
A representative of the market management board said that they would continue closely working with Kim Son Company to create optimal business conditions for the Vietnamese traders.
For his part, Khoi expressed his happiness at the market management board’s support for the Vietnamese traders.
He hoped the Vietnamese traders would continue their support for each other and try to complete legal paperwork when doing business there.
The Vietnamese Embassy is willing to support overseas Vietnamese citizens within its capability, the diplomat added.
He also advised the Vietnamese traders to keep offering good services at reasonable prices and maintain good ties with the locality where they are living and working, amid the current difficult economic situation.
Besides, he expected the Vietnamese traders to promote more Vietnamese products at the market.
In addition, Kim Son and the market management board should consider hosting activities for the Vietnamese traders on the occasion of Vietnam's public holidays such as Vietnamese Lunar New Year, or Tet, and Mid-Autumn Festival, as well as promptly forward the Vietnamese Embassy’s information to the Vietnamese traders, Khoi said.
