Covid hotspots Bac Giang, Bac Ninh to resume most manufacturing

Bac Giang and Bac Ninh, home to production facilities of global giants like Samsung Electronics and Foxconn, plan to resume most manufacturing starting July 10.

Le Anh Duong, chairman of Bac Giang said 222 companies with 55,400 employees have resumed operations with safety measures imposed, after two months of Covid-19 disruption. Over 5,700 local cases have been confirmed in the nothern province in the latest Covid-19 wave starting April 27.

In its neighbor Bac Ninh, a total 997 companies with 255,000 employees have resumed operations. Companies offer three meals a day within their factories to prevent contagion. The province has also ordered companies to arrange accommodation for employees on site.

Over 1,600 local cases have been recorded in Bac Ninh. The number of new infections is less than 10 a day, while it has been 23 days since the last case was confirmed in a factory.

Bac Giang and Bac Ninh have been two of the worst-hit Covid-19 localities in the country in the past two months. It had to shut down factories and conduct large scale tests on workers amid a surging number of cases.
