Industry promotion helps increase proportion of industry

Since 2014, the industry promotion program of Bac Giang Province has contributed to increasing the proportion of industry in the province’s economic structure.

Positive impact

According to a representative of the Bac Giang Department of Industry and Trade, the effectiveness of the program has dramatically changed both production and quality of rural industrial products, thereby increasing the proportion of industry in the province’s economic structure from 33.9 percent in 2015 to 47.8 percent in 2020.

Bac Giang Province prioritizes support for production facilities wishing to apply modern machinery and equipment

The result was attributed to the support of the provincial people’s committee through relatively stable funding allocated for industry promotion activities. From 2014 to 2020, Bac Giang industry promotion received nearly VND29.2 billion, with which its Industry and Trade Promotion Center has implemented 220 industry promotion projects. Much of the funding was spent on building technical demonstration models and application of advanced machinery and equipment by 96 direct beneficiaries, gradually improving the production capacity of the rural industrial sector.

The Bac Giang Industry and Trade Promotion Center also organized vocational training and improved occupational skills for 1,410 trainees; trained 2,133 students in business start-up knowledge; assessed cleaner production for two industrial production enterprises; supported 168 rural industrial establishments to directly participate or display their products at domestic trade fairs; and registered protection of 14 trademarks.

New impetus

Despite these positive results, a representative of the Bac Giang Department of Industry and Trade says not many industry promotion projects have been integrated with national target programs in recent years, and therefore have not left imprints or spread as widely as expected. In addition, funding for the program has yet to meet the growing needs of enterprises and rural industrial production establishments.

To overcome these weaknesses, the People’s Committee of Bac Giang Province approved the Industry Promotion Plan for the 2021-2025 period, which calls for mobilizing all resources to create a new impetus for the development of industrial and craft production. The total estimated budget for the implementation of the plan is VND309.6 billion, which includes the state budget, reciprocal funding by rural industrial establishments and other funding sources. The funding will prioritize the transfer and application of science and technology, cleaner production in order to improve the efficiency of raw material and fuel use; access to new technologies, digital economic development, and improved productivity, quality and competitiveness.
