From a small production origin and after 145 years of development, Sabeco currently has a system of 26 breweries with more than 145,000 product consumption channels nationwide. Vietnamese consumers are familiar with the brands and unique taste inspired by the combination of the spirit of Saigonese generosity and the richness of the southern lands, making it an in dispensable part of everyday life.
Many important milestones by Sabeco have accompanied the country’s progressive development. It is no exaggeration to say that the coronavirus outbreak has adversely affected the lives of millions of people around the world and its impacts, seen and unseen, will undoubtedly be felt in the years to come.
As a result, Sabeco has been working hard to support and work with the Vietnamese government in strengthening measures to curb the spread of the pandemic as well as boost economic development.
The “Rise with Vietnam” relay race aims to raise funds in support of local workers, following its aid programme which has reached 20,000 frontline health and logistics personnel as well as quarantined patients.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to severely impact the economy, affecting millions of workers, Sabeco will dedicate its 145th anniversary celebratory efforts to meaningful causes by joining hands with the government to support the most vulnerable amongst us,” said Sabeco general director Bennett Neo.
The campaign reaffirms Sabeco’s commitment to creating corporate social responsibility programmes which are relevant, practical, and impactful. In this instance, Neo explained, the relay reflects two of the four pillars of Sabeco’s 4C commitment – preserving and celebrating Vietnamese culture, and supporting the country’s development.

Overcoming hurdles
Under Sabeco’s organisation of the cross-country event, more than 100 elite runners from all walks of life will come together to cover 1,875km in the Heritage relay from Halong city to Ho Chi Minh City, and followed by the 145km Future relay to the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho. United under the common cause to support local workers, the runners will raise funds through their networks of friends and relatives.
Meanwhile, everyone else can contribute to the fund via digital payment, either by supporting through an inspiring runner or making an independent donation. Donations raised through the campaign will be given to fellow workers before the 2021 Lunar New Year, reflecting the Vietnamese tradition to stand by one another to overcome all oncoming challenges.
Referring to the purpose of the event, a representative of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour said, “We really appreciate Sabeco’s initiative, which will provide much needed support for our fellow Vietnamese workers affected by COVID-19.”
Journey to empowerment
The “Rise with Vietnam” relay coincides with the birthday of Sabeco, which was born in 1875 and has honoured the spirit of rising with Vietnam throughout the past 145 years. In addition, the 145km route from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho embodies the group’s vision for the future and another successful 145 years. Both relays are continuous, representing the endurance and perseverance as part of Vietnamese traditions.
Inspired by the shared mission that is to bring positive changes to the community and empower the rise of Vietnam, Nguyen Linh Chi, one of the runners of the relay said, “As soon as I heard about the ‘Rise with Vietnam’ relay hosted by Sabeco, I was keen on joining. I believe that the relay presents an opportunity for me to express my passion, to connect with new people, and to discover the beauty of Vietnam. Above all, along with hundreds of other runners, I hope to contribute further to our society in support of people adversely affected by COVID-19. I am certain this event will mark another meaningful chapter of my life.”
