MoIT denies reports about power price increase
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) late on Tuesday denied reports that the nation’s electricity price had increased. The reports had appeared on some websites and social media posts. 
The ministry said since the beginning of the year, the retail power price has not been increased. At a meeting on April 21, the Prime Minister instructed the ministry to not consider an electricity price hike this year.
The PM also approved reducing power bills for customers in the three months of May, June and July to support businesses and people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and provincial Departments of Industry and Trade have been implementing the power bill reduction.
MoIT has supervised the reduction in localities as well as resolved complaints relating to a surge in power bills amid the hot weather.
In addition, the ministry also asked EVN and power corporations to answer customers’ complaints about power bills.
Currently, the country is entering the peak of the prolonged hot season, resulting in a high demand for electricity. To limit the high electricity bills in the hot months, the MoIT recommended that customers should use electricity economically and efficiently.
