Shares retreat as large-caps vary

Shares failed to maintain their rally on Tuesday morning, witnessing struggles with differentiation in pillar codes.

The benchmark index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) lost 0.39 per cent to close Tuesday morning at 955.70 points.

More than 133.8 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth VND2.1 trillion (US$94 million).

The southern market index had gained 0.32 per cent to close Monday at 959.43 points.

The VN30-Index edged down Tuesday morning 0.12 per cent to end at 867.17 points.

In the VN30 basket, 16 of the 30 largest stocks by market capitalisation and trading liquidity declined while nine advanced.

Large-cap stocks such as Vietcombank (VCB), Vinhomes (VHM), Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Cotec Construction Joint Stock Company (CTD) and Vingroup (VIC) lost ground, putting great pressure on the common market and caused the indices to decrease.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index slid 0.20 per cent to end morning trade at 102.15 points.
