New innovations to be showcased at Aquaculture Vietnam

Farmers, fishermen and operators in the aquatic sector can stay updated on new products and innovations in the field at Aquaculture Vietnam 2019, slated for October 16-18 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.

Rose Chitanuwat, business director of UBM Asia, told a press briefing, held on August 15 in the city to announce the event, that Aquaculture Vietnam, through collaboration with Government agencies, non-governmental organizations and institutes will demonstrate new ecofriendly farming techniques that are expected to generate strong business results and meet the requirements of customers.

Earlier, aquaculture operators had to go abroad to study new technologies and gain experience. They can now view these innovations and services in the field at the three-day show, said the UBM representative.

The expo will feature a range of products across the entire food value chain in the aquaculture, fishery and seafood industry, such as fisheries feed, manufacturing equipment and processing and packaging lines, she added.

Addressing the meeting, Le Thanh Luu, director of the International Collaborating Center for Aquaculture and Fisheries Sustainability, said that issues related to epidemics, applications of aquaculture technology, processing for export, markets and the sustainable development of the local aquaculture sector will be discussed at international seminars held at the expo, gathering over 100 experts at home and abroad.

Nguyen Viet Thang, chairman at the Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS), said the local aquaculture sector is facing multiple obstacles due to climate change, market uncertainties, price volatility, and outdated manufacturing technology, among others. Accordingly, the Aquaculture Vietnam expo is expected to help address these issues, he said.
