Essential oil project launched in Hoi An
Hoi An has opened its first complex producing non-chemical essential oils, coffee and herb tea from local materials after three years construction at Thanh Ha Industrial Park in the city.
The project director, La Ngoc Anh said the complex, which was invested in by HANN Group, will make chemical-free products without preservatives, combined with manufacturing tours for visitors.
Anh said the plant, built on 2,500sq.m with total investment of VND90 billion (nearly US$4 million), will be the largest essential oil manufacturing plant in central Viet Nam with a capacity of one million units of essential oils for cosmetics from local herbs, clean drip coffee and herb tea filter bag products.
He said the plant would also manufacture the Hoi An-based Faifo Coffee brand and Cham Islands-grown herb tea, consuming 30 tonnes of local materials from farmers including sweet basil, peppermint, citronella, agawood, coriander Chinese parsley and pepper from Cam Kim Village for essential oil production and shampoo, shower cream, skin cream, soap and perfumes.
The company said essential oil from local herbs would be exported to Asian and European markets.
Hoi An has developed Tra Que vegetable village as an organic vegetable farming site along with Cam Kim, Thanh Tam Dong and various eco-tour sites.
Nguyen Van Dung, chairman of Hoi An City People’s Committee, said natural oil production and organic coffee and herb tea product will help promote the tourism brand of Hoi An, making it a top destination for safe farm products.
The tourism hub hosted five million tourists, including 3.7 million foreigners, in 2018, a 50 per cent growth in comparison of previous year.
The city’s tourism, trade and service industry earned revenue of VND7.2 trillion ($313 million) in 2018.
