Hai Duong okays $44m waste-to-energy plant
The People’s Committee of the northern province of Hai Duong has granted an approval in principle for the development of a waste-to-electricity plant in Cam Giang District.
The 10ha plant, expected to cost more than VND1 trillion (US$43.29 million), will be developed in a joint venture between the British Virgin Islands’ United Expert Investments Ltd and the Ha Noi-based Au Viet Resource and Environment JSC.
The plant, which is equipped with European advanced technologies, will treat 250 tonnes of unsorted daily waste per day once the first phase is completed in 2020 and 500 tonnes in the second phase beyond 2020.
It will produce 9-10 megawatts of electricity and other side products such as unbaked brick and other building materials made from ash.
Local authorities require the investor to complete procedures in land and environment protection. In the next 18 months, the investor is required to build plant and support facilities as well as install equipment and machines to begin trial operation.
