Made-in-Viet Nam desalination equipment exported to Saudi Arabia
Doosan Heavy Industries Viet Nam Company (Doosan Vina) has shipped its first batch of the Shoaiba-4 Seawater Desalination Project to Saudi Arabia following a US$430 million contract signed by Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) of Saudi Arabia and Doosan Vina last year.
This first of four shipments by Doosan Vina’s Water Division for the Shoaiba-4 Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination project departed from Doosan Vina’s port this year, and the next three shipments are scheduled for August, September and December.
The first shipment, which included 12 made-in-Viet Nam desalination pressure units, the piping and fittings and tanks to re-mineralise desalinated water, will help to build the Shoaiba desalination project in supplying the potable water requirements of Saudi Arabia’s second largest city, Jeddah and its five million people.
The Shoaiba-4 plant will produce 400,000 cubic metres of fresh water per day, and 146 billion litres per year.
Shoaiba-4 is the first of many major SWRO desalination projects planned to be built in Saudi Arabia following the reorganisation of the country’s water sector in 2016.
Doosan Vina supplies the mega infrastructure products including boilers for thermal power plants, desalination plants, cranes, structural steel.
To date the company has exported products valued at US$2.4 billion.
