Shares volatile on increasing divergence

Shares were volatile and edged down on the two national stock exchanges on Thursday morning, as large caps continued to widen divergence.

On the HCM Stock Exchange, the VN-Index inched down 0.04 per cent to 830.38 points.

The overall market condition was negative, with 165 stocks falling, 69 rising and 110 remaining unchanged.

There was no consensus among blue chips.

On the bright side, shares of FLC Faros Construction (ROS), Vinamilk (VNM), brewer Sabeco (SAB) and Vietcombank (VCB) continued their upward trend. But on the other hand, PV Gas (GAS), Petrolimex (PLX), Vietinbank (CTG) and VinGroup (VIC) slumped and weighed on the market.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index decreased 0.59 per cent to 106.77 points, with the number of losing stocks tripling the ones gained.

Liquidity remained modest in the two markets, with a total of 130 million shares worth a combined VND4.5 trillion (US$110 million) traded.

The afternoon trade session starts at 1pm.
