JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay named Asia’s Leading New Resort

On June 4, the 2017 World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia named JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay—the first 5-star ++ resort in the south of Phu Quoc Island—as Asia’s Leading New Resort.

JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay overtook famous newcomers in Asia and Australasia, such as Anantara Kalutara Resort (Sri Lanka), Shangri-La's Hambantota Resort and Spa (Sri Lanka), The St. Regis Langkawi (Malaysia), Alila Anji (China), Hoshinoya Bali (Indonesia), and Mövenpick Resort and Spa Jimbaran Bali (Indonesia), to bag the most votes from tourism experts from more than 140 countries.

“We are delighted to be named Asia’s Leading New Resort by our colleagues in the hospitality industry,” said Ty Collins, resort general manager. “The opening of JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay marks the birth of luxury hospitality in Phu Quoc and has established a benchmark of excellence and quality for future Marriott developments throughout Asia.”

The construction of JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay started in 2015 and the resort opened its doors to the public in December 2016.

Located at Kem Beach in the south of the island—a beautiful beach with white, cream-like sand and azure water—only 15 minutes from Phu Quoc International Airport, the resort has 244 rooms, suites, and stand-alone villas. Bensley’s design narrative for the site was a fictional academy of learning, Lamarck University at the beginning of the 20th century.

With an unmistakable French design, JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay recreates the atmosphere of the classrooms of 18 academic departments, including natural sciences, social sciences, architecture, chemistry, biology, and more. Arriving to the resort, visitors will feel like they are students thanks to the white chalk, black boards, school supplies, and the collection of trophies on display—awards of an imaginary school’s sports team that are now used as unique décor pieces.

JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay has a total four restaurants, namely Tempus Fugit, Pink Pearl, Red Rum, French & Co, and a Destination bar. With talented chefs and the freshest ingredients, the restaurants will surely serve patrons the best French, Japanese, Vietnamese or Guangdong – Chinese food experiences.

This is the first 5-star ++ resort in Sun Group’s Phu Quoc holiday resort chain to officially start operation. As the resort targets awakening the tourism potential of Phu Quoc and turn the island into the luxury travel destination of the world, JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay being named Asia’s Leading New Resort takes the developer a step closer.

In the future, as the Sun Group complex, including Sun Premier Village Phu Quoc Resort, Sun Premier Village Kem Beach Resort, Premier Residences Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, and the Hon Thom cable system and entertainment zone, comes into operation, Phu Quoc will light up as a bright spot on the global map of luxury travel.
