Thai ceramic company reports growing Lao interest

A Thai ceramic company expects to start operations in Laos after customers here were found to comprise 15 percent of their market.

Boonthavorn Ceramic Company Ltd.'s Deputy Managing Director, Mr Sitthisak Thayanuwat, said Lao customers were very interested in their products and accounted for a significant share of their market, which signals to the company that they should invest in Laos.

He said that in the four months after opening its Udon Thani branch, customers from Laos were often found making purchases and the fact that sales were going extremely well could be attributed, in part, to this.

Due to these initial positive results and some feedback from Lao customers, the company plans to expand their business into Laos at some point.

The company will not be able to open the intended branch in Laos right now because it doesn't want to create too much competition for their customer base at the Udon Thani branch.

Though they also face similar competition with companies from China and Vietnam that carry the same products at cheaper prices, the company believes its quality products will encourage Lao customers to choose them.

In Vientiane a choice of household construction materials and decorative items are still in high demand as Laos continues to see economic growth.
