Vientiane ODOP Fair to be held this May
The Vientiane Industry and Commerce Department is boosting its efforts to promote a sustainable scheme for the One District One Products (ODOP) through the arrangement of an ODOP fair alongside a series of academic seminars at the end of May.
This exhibition will be held from May 27 to June 1 and is expected to generate more than 3 billion kip in sales, including ODOP and other products. It will feature a wide range of ODOP products produced in Vientiane, ranging from agricultural products to industrial goods.
A press conference for the 4th Vientiane One District One Product Exhibition was held recently at Lao ITECC in Vientiane.
The Department Director, Mr Berlin Phetchantharath chaired the press conference, which was attended by invited guests and officials from Lao World Public Company Limited and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
Speaking at the press conference, Mr Berlin said the exhibition will enable the authorities in Vientiane to carefully select sustainable products under the trademark of ODOP.
�This event will help us to select the best ODOP products that will also lead to the sustainable development for better access to the target markets,� he said.
Mr Berlin added that organising this event will also assist the formulation of a database of national ODOP products because it will be easy for prioritising the standard of products.
�In addition, it will be also be good for producers to enhance the development plan for their products as well,� he said.
The organising committee for this event expects that around 36 units will take part in the exhibition and about 10 units from the provinces will be invited to display their products at the exhibition.
About 80 units from the model products representing the fields of industry, agriculture and handicrafts will also take part in the fair.
During the ongoing exhibition, technical seminars and workshops will be organised by the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) under the topic of �strengthening business and sustainability in the manner of integration.'
Last month, a national ODOP Exhibition, with over 3 billion kip in products and about 300 million kip in sales.
So far, a total of 484 products have been acknowledged by the department from 17 provinces and the capital, and more than 130 business units have been awarded ODOP trademarks from the Trade Department under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
