Seminar boosts logistics know-how of businesspeople

Laos is now becoming a more land-linked country in which a system of transport is fully triggered and both domestic and international logistics companies are being encouraged by the government.

As part of the government's endeavour, a seminar on International Logistics and Transport Development' is being co-hosted by the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) and the Overseas Human Resource and Industry Development Association (HIDA).

The three-day long seminar, which runs from March 21-23, is aimed at capacity building for personnel in the public and private sectors, enabling them to better understand domestic and international logistics and transportation.

At the opening ceremony, LNCCI Vice President Ms Valy Vetsaphong said seminar participants would learn about the effectiveness of proper goods transportation and logistics systems.

This will allow participants, especially businesspeople, to learn how to solve problems while facing difficulties at borders during goods transportation, among other things, she said.

The government fully promotes the investment policies of both domestic and foreign investors that are focused on boosting the steady growth of the economy even further through ventures in logistics and transport.

In addition, they believe the logistics and transport sector can play a significant role in socio-economic development.

Significantly the era of trade beyond borders is growing remarkably and the logistics and transport surrounding that trade is about to be more competitive regionally and internationally. So officials in the public and business sectors will have to be well-equipped with the necessary skills, Ms Valy said.

Seminar participants came from across a spectrum of representation including members of line ministries, business units and the LNCCI while several experienced instructors were invited to share their experiences in logistics and transport.

Representatives of HIDA are also taking part in the ongoing seminar where they have shared their experiences with the mostly Lao participants.

HIDA has long been in cooperation with the LNCCI and both organisations recently held workshops in Vientiane.

Workshop participants include engineers, supervisors and officers from a variety of business sectors with fewer than five years of experience.
