Lao consulting company selected to promote cooperation with Indonesia
A consulting company representing a variety of Lao companies will sit down with a cross section of Indonesian businesspeople to discuss the creation of business opportunities between the two countries.
Newton International was recently selected by the Indonesian Embassy in Vientiane as representation thanks to its long history of commitment to boosting economic growth in both Laos and Indonesia.
Laos and Indonesia are still far behind other Asean member countries in term of economic cooperation. For instance, the economic cooperation between Indonesia and Cambodia is much stronger than between Laos.
Therefore the Indonesia Embassy has decided that they should move further to promote cooperation, especially economically, between the two countries, the First Secretary of the Indonesian Embassy, Mr B. Wishnu Krisnamurthi told local reporters.
He said that among businesspeople in Laos the board of directors of Newton International was by far the most serious about creating better business cooperation between Lao and Indonesian entrepreneurs.
We were in no doubt to ask these businesspeople to be in the driver's seat for Indonesian cooperation with Lao businesspeople, said Mr Krisnamurthi.
The government of Indonesia has invited our company to meet and discuss with Indonesian businesspeople there so that we can be a bridge for both businesspeople helping them to find new market and opportunities for joining hands in business partnership, said the Chairman of Newton International Mr Nhai Khouvongsa.
The Indonesian government is keen to attract more Lao businesspeople to seek market opportunities in Indonesia and to also promote Indonesian businesspeople to open markets in Laos, he said.
Indonesia has a big market in almost all sectors, such as tourism and SMEs. If we have only 1 percent of the total Indonesian population visiting Laos, it would make the Lao tourism industry much healthier, Mr Nhai said.
Our company is more than welcome to help Lao companies with respect to consulting and financial assistance in order to expand their business in Indonesia in the sectors they are interested in, said CEO of Newton International Ms Linda Souvanaheung.
In addition, we can help Lao businesspeople or entrepreneurs develop and upgrade their products and services, especially in the fields of timber and agriculture to meet international standards and the market requirements of Indonesia, she added.
The import and export value from Laos to Indonesia in 2014-2015 reached over US$18 million, including US$640,475 billion of export value and over US$11 billion in imports, according to a report from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
