Leading innovation trend drives Huawei's robust growth, popularity
Leading a new trend of industry innovation and building on its product leadership has enabled China's tech giant Huawei to enjoy robust growth and increasing popularity in recent years, a trend it expects to coninue, Huawei Lao Office CEO Patrick said.
Huawei has remained focused on strategy and patiently applied ourselves to making breakthroughs and creating real value for our customers, Patrick said.
Sales revenue for Huawei, the world's largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer, is expected to reach 520 billion RMB in 2016, up 32 percent year-on-year.
After years of effort, Huawei has put in place a more streamlined delivery process, greatly improving delivery efficiency and quality. In 2016, the company's carrier business continued to reinforce its position in network products and services.
With cloud, video, and operations transformation as its strategic priorities, the company helped grow the industry and move it forward.
In close cooperation with our partners worldwide, our enterprise business has delivered innovative ICT products and solutions that help our customers address the challenges of digital transformation, he added.
Together, we are building a collaborative ecosystem that promotes shared success. These efforts have translated into profitable and sustainable growth for Huawei in key industries, such as smart cities, energy, finance, transportation, and manufacturing.
Huawei's consumer business has made decisive breakthroughs in the high-end segment of the global smart phone market, taking Huawei's brand influence to the next level.
Leading innovation trend
The CEO explained that building on its product leadership and leading a new trend of industry innovation has been a major factor that enables Huawei to enjoy and expect further robust growth.
While the global smartphone industry is slowing down and lacks innovation, Huawei's Consumer Business Group (CBG) builds on its product leadership and leads a new trend of industry innovation by pioneering groundbreaking developments in key technology areas, Mr Patrick stated.
In 2016, CBG has focused on developing meaningful innovations and has made breakthroughs in the areas of operating systems (EMUI based on Android), dual camera technology, artificial intelligence and more.
For operating systems, in order to solve the issue of Android phones slowing down over time, which has frustrated Android users for years, Huawei tasked a 3,000-member R&D team led by world-class Linux professionals to conduct optimisation on the Android system. Based on this work, Huawei unveiled EMUI 5.0 software that is deeply integrated with the Kirin chipset and contains 20 Huawei patented technologies, to take full advantage of the combination of Huawei software and hardware.
For dual-camera photography, Huawei and Leica jointly developed two generations of dual-camera technology in 2016, leading a new trend of smartphone photography and establishing new benchmarks for image quality that made the Huawei P9 and Mate 9 popular with consumers. In September 2016, Huawei also founded the Max Berek Innovation Lab with Leica. In the future, this innovation lab will conduct joint research and development in the fields of optical systems, imaging algorithms, VR and AR.
For artificial intelligence, Huawei focused on perception intelligence, cognitive intelligence, and computational intelligence, and created an artificial intelligence system based on collaboration between software, the device and the cloud. Huawei has also made technological breakthroughs in sensor algorithms, computer vision, search engines, and semantic understanding and introduced situational intelligence that can provide smarter services to users in different scenarios.
Thanks to these technological advancements, Huawei's flagship products like P9, Mate 9 and Honor 8 have achieved global recognition with consumers. Huawei P9 and P9 Plus global shipments exceeded 10 million units, making them the first Huawei flagship handsets to break 10 million sales.
In 2016, Huawei was again included in Interbrand's Top 100 Best Global Brand list, moving to a rank of 72nd. Huawei was also listed on BrandZ's Top 100 Global Brands for the second time, ranking 50th.
Our global brand awareness has increased from 76 percent to 81 percent. This means at least eight in every 10 consumers know the Huawei brand, said CEO Patrick.
Expected growth in Laos
In Laos, Huawei expected to register growth rate of about 8 percent in 2016 compared to 2015. The growth is predicted to increase by 10 percent in 2017, especially in the smartphone sector as Huawei Lao Office believes that the Lao smartphone market has great potential growth.
For consumer business, we think the Lao market is a huge potential market among Asean countries. More and more Lao people prefer smartphones, and Huawei will provide more series for our customers to choose in the new year, such as the GR5, Mate9 and P10.
This year, the Huawei Lao office has pledged to continue to focus on creating value for its customers, like Lao Telecom, ETL, Unitel, Beeline and Sky Telecom.
We will deeply improve the cooperation with Lao telecom operators on the 3G and 4G network expansion. Also, Huawei will continue to enhance the ICT level and infrastructure in Laos, Mr Patrick stated.
Furthermore, Huawei will invest more than US$2 million for its new Lao branch office in Vientiane. In the middle of year, its new office will have a grand opening in Vientiane New World area. The new office will provide a more comfortable working environment for its employees. And there will be a CSIC center (Customer Solution Innovation & Integration Experience Center) to help customers understand and design their profit models, and thus help them achieve business success.
