Ministry disseminates decision on eligible and prohibited wooden products

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has disseminated a Decision on the Approval of the List of Eligible and Prohibited Wooden Products for export to relevant government sectors and wood processing operators in Vientiane and other provinces.

The dissemination meeting on the decision took place yesterday and was presided over by the Director General of the Industry and Handicrafts Department, Mr Manohak Rasachack.

Mr Manohak Rasachack said the objective is to disseminate legislation to participants so that they will better understand and comprehend the implementation efforts by government authorities in terms of management and the promotion of the wood business sector.

In addition, it aimed to increase inspection and promotion of the wood industry systematically through management systems on the entry and exit of timber and to define the direction of wood industry development, especially in terms of improving quality and increasing production, he added.

The decision stimulates that eligible wooden products for export consist of 12 categories: wooden briquettes, pellets; wooden charcoal; wooden parquet, interior flooring; plywood; wooden handle products; builders' joinery and carpentry of wood; other articles of wood; wooden furniture; bamboo and rattan products; split poles; piles, pickets, stakes of wood and sawn wood; wood shavings, sawdust; and wood chips.

The prohibited wooden products for export also consist of 12 categories: columns; columns and laminated beams; large tables and chairs made from slabs of timber; large cutting boards; large planted timber; other black charcoals; S2S, S4S E4E Decking; moulded timber products; truck body joinery; coffins; balustrades; stair rails and laminated stair rails.

The decision also notes that all wood and wooden products that are not in the list of eligible wooden products for export are not allowed for export.

Besides this, the meeting disseminated reference forms on wooden products from both natural sources and plantations for export to all participants.
