Lao Asia-Pacific Satellite Co., Ltd has signed agreements with the AEK Group Co., Ltd to provide the Laosat HD satellite receivers in Laos through the first Lao Sat-1 satellite.
A signing ceremony took place at the Lao Asia-Pacific Satellite Co., Ltd office in Vientiane yesterday between the General Manager of Lao Asia-Pacific Satellite Co., Ltd. Mr Ding Yongbing and Chairman of the AEK Group Co., Ltd, Mr Oudasack Lasoukanh.
Laosat HD satellite receivers are facilitating television broadcasting through the DTH satellite and there are 60 television channels including six Lao channels.
The Laosat HD starts at the special price of 350,000 kip per year and 600,000 kip per two years.
These satellite receivers are serving the many television channel programmes from foreign countries and also six Lao channel programmes.
It's the first time the Laosat HD satellite will receive signal through Lao Sat-1 satellite. The deal will also encourage people to comply with the regulations and purchase only legal satellite dishes. Currently there are a number of illegal satellite dishes for sale in local markets.
The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) recently issued a request letter calling for the Customs Department of the Ministry of Finance to block any imports of illegal satellite receivers whose importers have not been granted permission from the MPT.
Currently, many companies have imported receivers for sale in local markets which are made to receive satellite signals from other foreign countries. In addition, satellite signals of other countries have been serviced in Laos without permission from the MPT, which violates the relevant regulations, MPT said in the request letter.
Subject to be blocked from import are brands including DTH Antenna receiver and set-top-box receiver as well as their related equipment.
The current unlawful service offering satellite dishes has spread from other countries, meaning the Lao government has not received any obligation fees.
However, the official said the ministry does not plan to collect or remove those satellite receivers that are being sold from local markets, saying that the latest move is just to block further unlawful imports.
After Lao Sat-1 was launched on November 2, 2015, its operati ons were trialled for about two months and officially began commercial services in the middle of March, 2016.
So far four foreign companies from Indonesia, Thailand, China and Taiwan have signed agreements to rent Laos' first telecommunications satellite (Lao Sat-1) while many other compan ies have also expressed their interest and will monitor the operations of the satellite, according to an official.
