Thai private healthcare operator enters Lao market

A major Thai private hospital, Khonkaen Ram Hospital, opened a representative office in Vientiane on Thursday to facilitate a healthcare consultancy service in the country.

The hospital opened the office here in Vientiane after noticing an increasing number of Lao people travelling to receive healthcare treatment in Khonkaen province of Thailand in recent times.

The opening of the office forms part of cooperation between Khonkaen Ram Hospital, the Lao government and the private sector. It is part of cooperation to drive the AEC, an official from Khonkaen Ram Hospital noted.

In Khonkaen, the Khonkaen Ram Hospital has foreign patients numbering about 7 percent of its total patient load. Among its top foreign patients are patients from Laos. That is why we are here in Vientiane, the official said.

The newly opened office will be a centre of knowledge and information on the health care services provided by Khonkaen Ram hospital which are available for patients from Laos.

It will also serve as a centre for coordinating between patients and the hospital; a centre for tracking and visiting patients in Laos; a centre for public relations and presenting the hospital's medical products to Lao people and as well as government org anisations and private enterprises.

And it will also be a coordination centre for health tourism in the future, the hospital representative said.

An official from the Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment said that in the future, Khon kaen Ram Hospital may invest in the construction of its own hospital here in Vientiane.
