Samsung supports vocational skills development
Lao Samsung Electronics Sole Co., Ltd. has donated 255 million kip to repair Samsung Smart Class and organise an air conditioner training course towards the development of vocational skills in Laos.
Working in partnership with the Lao-Korea Skill Development Institute, Samsung aim to provide for vocational skills development in fields in which it works.
The donation took place recently in Vientiane in the presence of Acting Director of the Lao-Korea Skill Development Institute Mr Khamphieng Keolangsy and the company's Electronics Section Head, Mr Kyung Muk Kim, along with officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports and Lao Samsung.
I am very happy to be part of education support and vocational development in partnership with the Lao-Korea Skill Development Institute to support vocational skills development in response to the needs of the Lao labour market, Mr Kyung Muk Kim said at the event.
Samsung builds inspiration and future with creative ideas and technology that will create change in the world of televisions, smartphones, tablets, cameras, household electricity, medical equipment, network systems, and LED solutions.
Samsung has always had the intention of promoting sustainable social development and has attached great importance to improving people's livelihoods everywhere, promoting education, health, employment and community.
We show the world the difference; it means Samsung is not just a company earning profit but we also contribute to society, Mr Kim said.
In an era of competition in all sectors it is not only about education and employment. The population in Laos is tending to rise and the best solution is to seek knowledge and develop our vocational skills to meet the labour market.
This air conditioner training course is a short course and participants don't have to pay fees through the Lao Tech Institute: Air Conditioner Training project.
The project is one of the skills development initiatives from Samsung and more than 100 students are interested in attending the course.
Mr Kyung Muk Kim believes that students who attend this course will be able to gain knowledge to operate their businesses and generate income for their families.
It is a meaningful day for us as well as the students. Samsung saw the importance of the centre and provided financial support to develop skills among Lao students in response to domestic and foreign labour markets, said Mr Khamphieng.
Currently, the institute has 2,176 students who are training in nine vocational subjects and air conditioner installation has attracted the interest of many students.
Therefore, this contribution from Samsung will be able to attract more students to learn this subject in the future, he noted.
