JW Marriott opens on Phu Quoc island

Five-star resort JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay opened its door to the public on December 17. The property is located near the beautiful Khem beach on Phú Quốc island.

The project, a collaboration between property developer Sun Group and one of the world’s leading hotel operators Marriott International, is off the coast of Kiên Giang Province and just a 15-minute drive from Phú Quốc International Airport.

Designed by well-known architect Bill Bensley, the resort and spa has 243 rooms, suites and villas that bring to life early 20th century by replicating the famous Lamarck University, known as Lam U, which was established in 1889. After five years of construction, the resort has remarkable features of the university campus and promises to be a memorable experience for those visiting the jade island.

Mai Anh Nhin, deputy chairman of Kien Giang Province, said the resort marks a new step in tourism on Phu Quoc island. “With the wave of investments from prestigious developers such as the Sun Group and other foreign and local developers, tourism is expected to take off and turn the island into a world-class travel destination,” Nhịn said.

Ty Collins, general director of JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, said the resort will contribute towards developing Việt Nam into a tourism destination.

Sun Group’s deputy chairman Dang Minh Truong said this is the group’s first project that has opened in Phu Quoc. The group has several projects underway in the southern part of the island, such as Premier Village Phu Quoc Resort, Premier Residences Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, a cable-car system and a theme park on Hon Thom islet.

JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay marks the presence of Marriott International, which has 5,700 hotels and resorts with a total of 1.1 million rooms across 120 countries, on Phú Quốc island.
