PM asks for drastic measures to accelerate social housing
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 7 chaired a videoconference on social housing and houses for workers.
Participants at the event included Deputy PMs Vu Duc Dam and Trinh Dinh Dung and leaders from ministries and agencies and 63 localities.
Earlier, the Resolution of the 12th Party Congress highlighted the implementation of the housing policy for disadvantaged people, the poor, people living in remote areas, low-income people and workers working at industrial parks and students.
The Government has also launched the National Housing Development Strategy to 2020, with a vision to 2030.
The PM hailed the social housing package with 300,000 apartments at reasonable prices, asking the local authorities nationwide to propose suitable mechanisms for all organizations to pour more investment into social housing.
Minister of Construction said that 3.7 million m2 of social housing at urban areas and industrial parks have been put into use, helping 500,000 low-income workers and laborers.
As of November 2016, the nation has launched 179 social housing projects, providing 71,150 apartments. However, the National Housing Development Strategy sets the criteria of providing 250,000 apartments by 2020, the figure only accounted for 28%.
The videoconference was held to discuss policies for functional agencies to build more social houses to meet the demands of the people, especially the poor and disadvantaged ones, said the PM.
