Study tour group heads to Japan for taste of food industry
The Embassy of Japan held a send-off ceremony at the ambassador's residence on Monday for 20 government officials and 10 private entrepreneurs who are heading for Japan to participate in a study tour under the JENESYS 2016 (Economics) programme.
The study tour, fully supported by the Japanese government, is focused on the theme of food, with the goal of enhancing participants' knowledge and ideas about food processing, quality control and service based on lessons learned from Japanese business enterprises.
In addition, the participants will deepen their understanding of both traditional and contemporary Japanese culture.
The 20 government officials were selected in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Lao Youth Union. The 10 entrepreneurs were selected in collaboration with the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
At the send-off reception, Minister Counsellor of Japan to Laos, Mr Kazunori Kawada, said participants would be messengers for what they find attractive about Japan, such as the delicious food, coexistence of modern technology alongside traditional culture, and care for the natural environment.
Following the ambassador's remarks, Ms Alounni Sisavath, a representative of the participants who is an official at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, expressed her appreciation to the Japanese government and her determination to study the Japanese food industry to make good use of this experience and promote the food industry in Laos.
The Lao delegation, together with other participants from Brunei, Thailand and Myanmar, will visit Hokkaido, the largest and northernmost prefecture in Japan. Besides visiting local industries and enterprises, they will also meet with local residents and experience Japanese culture.
JENESYS 2016 is a people-to-people exchange programme between Japan and the Asia-Pacific region. The Japanese government will invite about 340 young Lao people to Japan this fiscal year.
The programme is expected to promote mutual trust and understanding among the peoples of Japan and the Asia-Pacific region and to build a basis for future friendship and cooperation.
