New cement plant slated for Hinhuep
A cement factory with a production capacity of some 5,000 tonnes per day is set to commence construction in Hinheup district, Vientiane province with the project slated for completion in 2018.
The ground breaking ceremony was held on Tuesday, attended by the Vientiane provincial Governor, Mr Vidong Sayasone, Vientiane Hongshi Saythirath Cement Co., Ltd Managing Director, Mr Wang Jia nwei and Saythirath Group Co., Ltd President, Mr Souksakhone Saythirath.
They were joined by concerned government officials along with local authorities and representatives from the relevant sectors.
The project covers three villages, Phabong, Naleuang and Naphong, in Hinheup district, Vientiane province.
The project will invest about US$300 million and use a new dry process technology in processing cement.
The Hongshi Holding Group holds 70 percent of the shares, while Saythirath Group has 30 percent.
The plant will use new technology which is safe and environmentally friendly and once completed, the factory will produce high quality cement products for export and domestic supply.
Most of the cement export products will focus on Thailand and the remainder will supply the domestic market especially government projects.
It will also contribute to infrastructure such as road and bridge construction and hydropower development projects.
Importantly, it will help to reduce c ement imports and create job opportunities for local people dur ing project construction and operation.
The project also plans to develop roads, bridges and infrastructure development in the area of the facility which will also assist local transport.
The Hongshi Hold ing Group is one of the biggest cement enterprises in China, which has operated businesses in construction materials and financial services, the Hongshi Holding Group Managing Director, Mr Xu Youyuan said at the ceremony.
The company currently has a total of US$4billion in property with 12,000 employees and is recognised for its energy expansion and environmental protection, he said.
He believed that the project will help contribute to socio-economic development, especially in the province.
The company promised that the company will be honest and will implement all its activities in accordance with the Lao regulations and respect local culture.
Mr Vidong advised the compan y to pay more attention during construction to appropriate techniques and the feasibility report as well as help to develop local infrastructure.
He also urged them to respect Lao regulations and local traditions in order to implement the project according to the se t time schedule.
T he project saw an initial feasibility study in 2015 and agreed to excavate lime and construct a cement factory with the government last month.
So far, the government has approved the establishment of 18 cement factories around the country with a capacity of 12 million tonnes a year.
Currently, 12 of those cement factories are in production with a capacity of more than five million tonnes a year, while other plants are under construction or in the feasibility study stage.
