KPMG shares developments, challenges with Lao business community

KPMG in Laos last week hosted the KPMG Executive Briefing and Cocktail event for their clients by gathering over 50 C-level executives from leading companies.

KPMG Laos Chief Executive Officer, Mr Winid Silamongkol, said the event was organised to update KPMG's clients in Laos, both private and public enterprises, about what is currently happening, the critical factors that may impact these businesses, and how they should prepare to face those challenges in 2017 and onwards.

During the event, one of the speakers, Partner in Charge of KPMG Laos office, Mr Ganesan Kolandevelu, shared his view from the micro-economic perspective, looking at new rules and regulations and how these will impact the organisations in 2017.

His session mainly focused on the potential increase in the cost of doing business in Laos and the need for organisations to strategise their next move and their business model.

Another speaker, Senior Economist with the World Bank Office in Vientiane, Mr Evgenij Najdov, shared his economic insights of Laos from the mac ro-perspective, focusing on key challenges and the future outlook for the country. The event provided crucial updates and information on how the organisations should be ready and prepare for the change moving forward.

The event was organised specially for KPMG clients. Participants came from various sectors such as hydropower, insurance, manufacturing, bank, hotel, funding agencies, and government agencies. In addition KPMG Lao PDR referred to its internship programme in which KPMG has been engaging and working closely with the National University of Laos.

The programme seeks young, active and talented students to be trained in the firm in the hope they will gain the relevant knowledge and experience to contribute to develop ing the economy and the country.

This is KPMG's contribution to the community and the country and is one of KPMG's core values.

A representative of the National University of Laos presented a thank you certificate to Mr Ganesan.

KPMG Lao was established in 1997. Currently, the company has more than 55 people with the firm providing audit, tax and advisory services to all types of clients.
